Rebecca’s Reviews

Book

Being Mortal

by Atul Gawande

4/5 stars

I enjoyed listening to this on audiobook, Atul weaves together medical information and personal stories focused on aging and end of life care. The book ruminates on the idea that it is the quality of life that counts not just extending the years we are here. I would have liked more practical solutions or a more solutions focused approach, that felt obtainable. Never-the-less it was an engaging read.

Book

Invisible Women

by Caroline Criado-Perez

5/5

One of my favorite reads in recent years. This book will help you feel seen and not so alone. Caroline does an excellent job bringing statistics into the conversation about women’s invisible labor and how it keeps the world turning. Reading it feels like someone finally articulating the unackowledged weight women and caregivers walk around with daily. This book also helped inspire the name of this site, as it does a fantastic job of making the invisible visible.

Podcast

Episode: The Science of Emotions: How your brain predicts your feelings with Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett

Podcast: The One You Feed

5/5

I will be honest, I don’t love this podcast or its host but I love this episode, as a big fan of Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett! Dr. Barrett is a professor at Northeastern university and has published over 275 peer-reviewed papers. She is a leader in psychology and neuroscience. Her books are wonderful too but this podcast is a great place to be introduced to her work. What if I told you how you think emotions are made is wrong? Listen to this episode to find out more!

Essential listening!
